Prof. Yu received his PhD from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada and spent the subsequent years at various institutions, including UCSF, Stanford, HKUST and the Peking University. Undoubtedly, he possesses a broad cross-cultural experience base and is actively involved in both the academic and the business environment for over 40 years.

He is now a world-renowned bio-entrepreneur and a scientist with over 20 years of experience in this field. Moreover, he has published over 170 peer-reviewed scientific papers in reputed international journals, in addition to publishing several commentaries in journals like Science and Nature Biotechnology.

Apart from his aforementioned designations, Prof. Yu is also the founder and the president of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Biotechnology Alliance, on the board of trustees of the Gordan Research Conference, Justice of the Peace and a former member of the board of directors of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP).

With a global network and an expanding base of established contacts in China, Prof. Yu has been a significant facilitator of dialogue regarding the development of the biotech sector in Asia.


Zhaoyang YE, PhD   Chief Scientific Officer

Dr. Zhaoyang Ye has around 20 years’ experience in both academia and industry. He graduated from University of Tennessee with a PhD degree in pharmaceutical science and conducted his postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins University. His expertise spans materials science & engineering, molecular and cell biology, biotechnology and pharmaceutics. He has published more than 60 scientific papers and is the holder of 4 patents. His work was sponsored by government foundations including National Natural Science Foundation of China. He serves as guest editor and member of the editorial board for many scientific journals, besides being an ad hoc reviewer for several journals and foundations.

Freda Wu

Freda WU, FCPA   Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer

Ms. Freda Wu is an all-rounded senior finance and management executive with successful career span over 20 years at Greater China and Asia Pacific regional level with MNCs and statutory organization driven by professionalism, positive attitude and get-things-done mentality. Prior to joining HKLife, Freda was COO of Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP). Freda led and managed varies operations and functions in HKSTP, including Finance, Capital Projects & Financing, Procurement, Facilities Management and Leasing Administration, etc. She was part of the executive leadership team in developing overall corporate planning and strategies.

Tina LIU, MBA   Director of General Management

Ms. Tina Liu obtained Master of Business and Administration (MBA) in Beihang University. She joined HKLife in 2007, serving as regulatory specialist and administration manager and now is Director of general management, in charge of the finance, administration, human resource and legal affairs. Before joining HKLife, she worked international and foreign owned enterprises such as Beijing Yanjing Brewery and Qiagen. She has strong experience and strength in administration, operation and coordination.

Xiaowei SHI, PhD   Assistant Chief Scientific Officer - Focus on Clinical Testing

Dr. Xiaowei Shi is a biologist graduated from the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences with a PhD degree in developmental biology. Currently he is a post-doctoral fellow jointly trained by HKLife and Capital Medical University. At HKLife, he is leading the clinical validation and sample preparation of HKLife’s diagnostic platform.
